New Video Helps Introduce Fetal Development to Children

Atlanta, GA -- It's a question that makes many parents cringe. "Where do
babies come from?"

The Human Development Resource Council Inc. is doing its best to help
parents answer that question, carefully providing the facts, while
side-stepping the uncomfortable, explicit sexual issues.

The Norcross, Georgia pro-life group's video, "You Are a Masterpiece,"
takes an in-depth look into the world of the unborn. The animated video,
designed for elementary school-aged children, is racking up nationwide
recognition and is a finalist for the Kids First children's video of the
year --- the "Academy Award" of children's video, said Patty Steele, HDRC
executive director. The winner will be announced in March.

Formed to educate the public about sexual health issues, the HDRC also is
working with Gwinnett County Public Schools to integrate its message into
next year's curriculum.

But the video, the agency's first mass marketing endeavor, is what's
making waves. Steele said the video fills a huge void with small children,
and eliminates tales of storks and angels. She hopes to have the video on
the shelves of major bookstores and retailers within a year.

"There's nothing out there that explained to them, medically accurately,
exactly what's going on in terms that they could comprehend," Steele said.
"There's nothing else like it. This is a way in which to bring that hidden
world of life before birth into the open for children without embarking on
all of the other baggage that is not necessary at that age."

Using in-utero photography and animation, "Masterpiece" shows how babies
grow, eat, sleep, breathe and develop in the nine months of gestation.

Kids learn about chromosomes, how an egg cell is fertilized, the umbilical
cord, and more.

Many publications targeting parents have given ringing endorsements of the
video that was developed by doctors, nurses and medical experts. Discovery
Channel's Web site also gave the video a glowing review.

"Masterpiece," produced in association with Small Fry Productions, quickly
has become a favorite video of Steele's 4-year-old son.

"Kids just love it and they're not threatened by it at all," Steele said.

Formed in 1985 by doctors and nurses, HDRC, a nonprofit agency, focuses on
teaching children and young adults about fetal development, sexually
transmitted diseases, abortion and abstinence. The nonprofit agency has
had its materials distributed worldwide. Another video, "Preview of a
Birth," which is designed for teenagers, was translated into Romanian, and
other products have been picked up in Mongolia, Africa, Canada and South
America.

To purchase the "Masterpiece" video ($19.99) or to obtain educational
materials, call the HDRC at 770-447-1598.
